About this Webinar:
Have you ever marveled at Saskatchewan's diverse wildlife and wondered about its connection to the land beneath your feet? Join Dr. Dale Leckie to discover how local geology has shaped the habitats of a variety of animals. The lives of so much wildlife are closely related to the landscapes they live in, from the vast dry prairies and badlands to active sand dunes, to the deep river valleys, and glaciated terrain.
Check out the deeply entrenched Saskatchewan River valley which provides habitat for countless birds, lake sturgeon, prairie rattlesnakes, loggerhead shrikes, and beavers. Keep an eye out for burrowing owls, the greater short-horned lizard, kangaroo rats, American badgers, and pronghorn antelope on glaciated plains and old lake beds as you explore the scenic natural wonders of Saskatchewan. For wildlife enthusiasts, highways 4 and 35 offer unparalleled opportunities for observation, traversing diverse habitats and spectacular landscapes from grasslands to boreal forests. Sand dunes, remnants of the glaciers' retreat, create unique habitats for creatures like Ord's kangaroo rat which you can find in the dunes of the Great Sand Hills Ecological Reserve.
PCAP’s Native Prairie Speaker Series is a monthly webinar about prairie conservation or species at risk. Special for June, this webinar is also in Celebration of Native Prairie Appreciation Week
Hosted by: Caitlin Mroz-Sailer, Stewardship Coordinator, Saskatchewan Prairie Conservation Action Plan
